The Basics

Individual sessions are scheduled independently and are set up with a therapist who specializes in treating specific issues on a client-by-client basis. Group therapy is held once a week for 90 minutes and covers specific topics such as relapse prevention, anger management and chemical dependency. Additional counseling for co-occurring disorders can also be integrated. All groups are gender-specific allowing clients to delve into personal issues in a safe environment.
All therapies implemented at Karen Bergbower and Associates use the CBT method. The 12 steps are not included in treatment, though AA/NA meeting attendance is encouraged with referrals available to local groups upon request.
The staff at Karen Bergbower and Associates consists of LMSWs, CADCs and CPCs.
Extras
In addition to the outpatient substance abuse treatment program, Karen Bergbower and Associates also offers a variety of other services and programs to clients and the community. Educational and adolescent programs, assessments and drug screenings as well as prevention programs are all available.
Adolescent programs—including Learning Experience for Awareness and Decision-Making (LEAD), a one day educational group that focuses on better decision-making for those under the age of 21 who are facing alcohol- and drug-related charges—are also available, Additionally, young people can enroll in Find Awareness Concerning Tobacco (FACT), an adolescent smoking cessation program.
