Sacramento CaliforniaThe Basics

Located in South Sacramento, Kaiser Permanente’s Chemical Dependency Services offers outpatient support for individuals seeking substance abuse treatment. In addition to chemical dependency, Kaiser offers full medical services to assist clients with all of their behavioral, mental and physical health concerns.

Treatment and Staff

The South Sacramento Chemical Dependency Services program is low-intensity treatment for individuals seeking flexible treatment to incorporate into their life and work schedules. Prior to admission, potential clients must schedule an appointment to be seen by the psychiatry triage unit for a bio-psycho-social assessment. Clients requiring detox, Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) or an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) are referred to an outside Kaiser clinic located close to the main facility.

All services under the CDS program are designed to build the confidence of the client and propel them towards healthy coping skills and a substance-free life.

Once per week, clients attend group therapy led by CADCs. Some clients may receive individual therapy sessions depending on their unique needs. Duration of treatment is unique to the client and individualized treatment plans enable the clinical staff to identify special patterns and the need for family involvement. In addition to group and one-on-one sessions, clients are required to attend 12-step support groups. For those uncomfortable with the 12-step philosophy attendance of LifeRing meetings or other forms of self-help and support groups are encouraged.

Counselors and program directors utilize evidence-based practices that include CBT and DBT techniques. Groups vary from therapeutic process groups to psycho-educational sessions so that clients are informed on the nature of addiction. If dual diagnosis support is needed, clients are assisted through process groups and individual therapy with experienced mental health professionals. If further support is needed, the client may be transferred to the IOP track located at a remote Kaiser clinic.

Extras

While there is not a family program available, family or spousal involvement is encouraged on a case by case basis. Therapists may schedule a family therapy session if they believe it would benefit the client.

In Summary

Kaiser Permanente’s CDS program in South Sacramento offers low-intensity outpatient assistance to chemically dependent individuals. Through group therapy, outside support including 12-step and LifeRing, clients are guided towards living a life without the use of substances. Additional support including detox and IOP is available through a remote Kaiser clinic located close to the main facility.
