The Basics
Kaiser Permanente’s Behavioral Health Services Ala Moana is located in Honolulu, Hawaii. All services are outpatient based and individualized to each client in need of chemical dependency treatment. Clients are treated in the same building as general and mental health care so they may take advantage of a wide range of clinical services available through the Kaiser Permanente’s network of care.
Treatment and Staff
Ala Moana offers services for adults who do not need intensive monitoring or structure. Prior to enrolling, all clients must schedule an appointment with the intake staff for an assessment. There are no detox services available, so if a potential client is in need of these services they are referred to an outside facility.
All services are scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays: the first class is from 3 to 4 pm and the second from 4:30 to 5:30 pm. Group therapy is facilitated during the classes by CDACs. Counselors utilize evidence-based practices as well as some 12-step principles during groups. Topics include relapse prevention, psycho-education and behavioral modification techniques. Depending on the client’s needs, they may also schedule individual therapy on a case by case basis to support their treatment plan. Attendance of 12-step meetings may be suggested but is not required for program attendees. Length of treatment is dependent on the client’s progress through their plan and their personal recovery goals.
Dual diagnosis support is available with a Psychiatrist through the mental health program. Medication management and additional support groups may be implemented to help clients work towards their recovery goals. Clients with co-occurring disorders are monitored and offered support by the clinical staff and their primary therapist.
Extras
Families are invited to attend the Wednesday evening groups. The family program helps to unite families and keep them active in their loved one’s recovery. Therapists focus on teaching techniques to help loved ones heal.
Aftercare sessions are available once clients have completed their primary treatment track. Once per week, following the evening group, counselors meet with clients on an individual basis to check on their recovery process.

Kaiser Permanente Behavioral Health Services provides a basic outpatient chemical dependency track for adults in Honolulu. Meeting three times a week for one hour each day, clients attend group and individual sessions as well as family therapy to work towards integrating recovery to their daily lives. All services are tailored to the individual and their unique recovery programs are supervised as they progress through treatment.
