The Basics
Located on the New Jersey Shore in Perth Amboy, Journey to Wellness is an outpatient substance abuse clinic for adults and adolescents. Founded in 2009, this facility uses a mixture of evidence-based techniques and the 12 steps to help clients. While some treatment plans may use a “one size fits all” model, the approach here is highly individualized. Journey to Wellness provides substance abuse treatment to a diverse group of individuals suffering from all types of addictions and co-occurring disorders.
Treatment and Staff
Journey to Wellness’s outpatient services include partial care, Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and traditional outpatient. Following an evaluation, an individualized treatment plan is mapped out. The cost for the initial intake is $80. Detox is not available on site, but referrals can be made to nearby facilities.
The IOP program offers a high level of support, meeting three days a week, for three-hour sessions. This eight- to 12-week program includes group and individual therapy, as well as education. Group topics include mental health, relapse prevention, coping skills, introduction to the 12 steps, meditation, trauma, anger management and CBT therapy. Individual therapy is offered once a week, giving the client a chance to delve deeper into their struggles and find solutions. There is a specialized IOP track for adolescents aged 13 to 18.
The traditional outpatient program is also an option, offering treatment once or twice a week, for three-hour sessions. Clients are able to participate in individual therapy once a week, while getting a few hours of group therapy each week. The length of time spent in this program depends on the individual.
The partial care program is designed for adults needing a daily structured treatment program to address substance abuse issues and get dual diagnosis support for co-occurring disorders. A total of 20 to 30 hours of treatment services are provided weekly—about five to six hours a day, Monday through Friday. All programs require attendance at at least two off-site AA/NA meetings per week.
The staff includes CSACs and LCSWs.
Extras
Programs are also available to treat addictions other than drugs and alcohol, including co-dependence, gambling, food, sex and smoking.
Journey to Wellness operates a bilingual English-Spanish clinic and makes an effort to hire individuals who best represent the culturally diverse New Jersey population.
Urine analysis testing is available and the cost is included in the intake fee.
