Founded in 2015, Journey to Recovery Rehabilitation Center is a treatment center in Talisay City, in the province of Cebu, Philippines. It offers detox, inpatient and outpatient substance abuse treatment to clients 18 years and over. Based on 12-step principles, programs are available in English, Tagolog and Cebuano.
Accommodations and Food
Journey to Recovery takes a maximum of 22 clients at a time. Residents are housed in gender-specific dorms with bunk beds and shared bathrooms. Space is limited so storage containers are provided for a small number of personal belongings, which should include comfortable, lightweight clothes and shoes. Facilities include a TV lounge, dining room and communal outdoor space with smoking area. Detox clients begin their stay at a nearby hospital under medical supervision and transfer to the facility once stabilized. All meals are prepared on site and included in the price of treatment. Menu options include traditional Filipino fare as well as other choices designed to appeal to a diverse clientele.
Treatment and Staff
A stay at Journey to Recovery may last three to nine months. Clients spend every day in CBT-based individual therapy with an assigned counselor, in addition to group therapy twice a day. Daily routines also feature guided meditation, excursions and written assignments. On-site AA/NA meetings are available (and open to the public) on weekdays and Saturday evenings, while Sunday is reserved for off-site meetings and recreational outings, like going to the beach. Support for co-occurring disorders is available in the form of individual therapy with a psychiatrist and medication management.
Journey to Recovery employs a number of licensed counselors, a consulting psychiatrist and medical professionals.
Extras
The aftercare program offers ongoing therapy, either on-site or by Skype. Counselors may also recommend programs closer to where clients live after they leave treatment.
In Summary
Though relatively new, the program at Journey to Recovery is a welcome resource. Offering a combination of traditional therapy and 12-step immersion, this residential treatment facility is a great choice for ex-pats seeking a 12-step community in a beautiful setting. Journey to Recovery is also very affordable, even when you factor in the cost of a plane ticket. While this is definitely not a luxury rehab, it is a good option for those seeking a rehab a world away from their daily life.
