The Basics
Located in Madison, Wisconsin, Journey Mental Health Center has been offering community-based outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment for over 65 years. The rehab provides individual therapy, group therapy and a family program as well as dual diagnosis support, using a wide range of evidence-based techniques, as well as medication and EMDR. To make these programs accessible to the entire community, services are provided in both English and Spanish.
Treatment and Staff
The highly-skilled staff uses CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help clients find new ways of coping with stress. Some groups are coed, while others focus on gender-specific topics. Topics include coping skills, substance abuse education, anger management and trauma. Specialty groups for Spanish speakers, gay men and African-American women and men are also offered. The length and intensity of treatment depends on the individual.
In addition to group therapy, clients can participate in one-hour individual counseling sessions that give them a chance to delve deeper into their personal issues. Journey specializes in trauma and EDMR sessions can be arranged.
Dual diagnosis support for co-occurring mental health issues is always available in both a group and individual setting. Medication management, including weekly psychiatric appointments, is also offered. For those seeking detox from opiates, Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) with Suboxone is available.
The staff includes Master’s and Doctoral-level therapists, as well as nurses and psychiatrists.
Extras
Family involvement is made possible through the family program. During this time, the client and their loved ones can work on codependency, boundaries and healthy communication.
The impaired driving program is available for those who have been court-ordered to receive drug and alcohol treatment. It involves group and individual counseling, as well as blood and urine tests.
