The Joseph HouseThe Basics

The Joseph House is certified by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services to provide treatment programs to homeless veterans suffering from addiction and substance abuse. Located in Cincinnati, Ohio, clients are surrounded by a city with numerous resources to help them during their recovery process. Joseph House offers an outpatient substance abuse treatment program as well as a halfway house and a transitional care program.

Treatment and Staff

The outpatient program at Joseph House is called the Ready & Forward program. Intended for clients who have already completed inpatient treatment and are in need of less intensive care, The Ready & Forward program offers two months of housing support during treatment if needed. The program is highly individualized and based on the Matrix Model. During their 16 weeks of treatment, clients go through a curriculum that consists of sober living and life skills; relapse prevention; family therapy; MYT and mindfulness training; 12-step groups and working on reintegrating back into the community. Depending on individual needs, different clients spend more time in different therapies than others. Clients typically come in three days a week for several hours of group therapy per day. During the last few weeks of the program, the reintegration aspect of treatment comes into play. Clients work on improving their relationships, and work on achieving stability in the following areas: financial issues, employment, housing, other emotional/mental health issues and development of other hobbies/interests.

In addition to the comprehensive outpatient substance abuse treatment program, Joseph House also offers transitional living and halfway house program. The halfway house program at Joseph House, the Marx Center, offers a sober environment with individual counseling, group counseling, education groups, case management, and also focuses on early recovery issues. The transitional to permanent housing is offered to those in either the Marx Center or the Ready & Forward Program.

The staff at Joseph House consists of CADCs, Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselors (LICDC), LPCs and LSWs.

In Summary

The Joseph House offers excellent treatment and housing programs for homeless veterans in Cincinnati proper and its surrounding communities. In addition to the halfway house program with treatment aspects and a sober environment, the outpatient program, with a reintegration portion to aid clients in all aspects of their lives, is a solid step to take in early recovery.
