Boise IdahoThe Basics

John Southworth is a CADC, Board Registered Interventionist and owner of Southworth Associates, an agency located in Boise, Idaho. Southworth travels the world to perform interventions using his extensive experience in the field of addiction and co-occurring disorders. Southworth treats a myriad of addictions including drug, alcohol, sex, gambling, smoking, bulimia and anorexia. Additionally, over the years Southworth has assisted recovery as a DUI evaluator and a counselor for both inpatient and outpatient substance abuse treatment services. Aside from interventions, Southworth provides sober companionship tailored to each individual’s needs.

Southworth has a list of credentials including Nationally Certified Addiction Counselor (NCAC), Level I, and Internationally Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (ICAADC) and Certified Intervention Professional (CIP) through the Pennsylvania Certification Board.

Additionally, Southworth Associates offers comprehensive monitoring programs for recovering nurses, physicians, pharmacists, lawyers and dental professionals. These services are facilitated by a team of professionals with BS, BA, MA or LPC credentials.

The Background

Southworth has been involved in mental health and substance abuse work for more than 40 years. As an individual in recovery himself, Southworth lends his personal experience with addiction and recovery to his work and uses his own success in sobriety as his motivation to educate other addicts and their families on the disease. With over 30 years of continued sobriety, Southworth provides training for substance abuse awareness and is a national speaker at events and conferences as an expert on addiction.

The Approach

Southworth’s approach combines the use of the ARISE Intervention Model, the Johnson Intervention Model and the SYSTEMIC Intervention Model in hopes of convincing the addict into treatment. Emphasis is placed on providing support for the entire group or family involved in the intervention. Southworth also endorses the 12 steps as an essential tool for continued recovery and all clients are encouraged to participate. Clients can receive referrals for detox services if needed.

Individuals have access to case management services by enrolling in the Recovery Enhancement Program (REP) that is available as an extension following residential care. These services include random drug screens, 24/7 access to a program coordinator, individualized aftercare plans and constant monitoring of post-treatment progress, outpatient programs and counseling and psychiatric support.

Post-Intervention and Summary

Combining the use of evidence-based techniques and his own personal addiction and recovery experience during each customized intervention, Southworth guides clients through the early stages of facing their substance abuse issues and gives families the educational and emotional support needed to sustain lasting wellness. With two levels of case management services available, individuals in the REP program who desire support in maintaining long-term sobriety are held accountable with comprehensive case management and aftercare plans.
