TennesseeThe Basics

Johan Sorensen graduated with a BA from the University of London in 1999. Currently, he provides consultation services and interventions in the United States, Europe and the Middle East. As the founder and director of Sorensen Consultancy, Sorensen also works with C4 Recovery Solutions and FBHC Advisors providing support to individuals with mental health and substance abuse disorders.

Although he has worked with individuals who have a wide range of backgrounds, the majority of Sorensen’s clients are privileged and include the high-net-worth children of the world’s wealthiest elite. Utilizing evidence-based practices, Sorensen and his staff specialize in providing discrete and creative solutions to substance abuse and addiction.

Background

Also an accomplished and award-winning photographer, Sorensen has been working in the field of addiction for more than 20 years. In the past he has worked with and consulted for some of the best known residential facilities such as Hazelden Betty Ford, Lifeworks and Farm Place. His family history with addiction and alcoholism strongly influence his vocation; with an alcoholic father and a mother who is a drug and alcohol counselor, Sorensen’s personal background informs his work with clients.

Additionally, Sorensen helps to establish and “revitalize” substance abuse facilities, advising and training individuals in the trauma and recovery field.

The Approach

Sorensen has developed effective client-centered approaches that combine the use of evidence-based techniques and a Family System Model. With a “compassionate and collaborative” approach, Sorensen works with families to encourage and motivate clients into accepting help.

Additionally, Sorensen’s staff have a diverse background and lend both personal experience in recovery and navigating high-profile environments to accommodate the unique demands of elite clientele. Through his travels and as a result of speaking several languages, his services tend to push the boundaries on current intervention standards. His goal is to guide his clients into recovery by whichever means necessary. Assistance and referrals for detox, inpatient or outpatient treatment programs are provided as are referrals to 12-step meetings upon request.

Post-Intervention and Summary

Sorensen customizes the intervention process to meet each client’s circumstances with the unique perspective of working with international clients. Families are given adequate support, referrals and resources as needed. The length of direct contact with each client is determined by individual need, though in the past Sorensen has worked with clients for up to a year. Generally, aftercare planning is encouraged to support a lasting meaningful and sober life. Case management services include on-going liaising with treatment facilities and families as well as arranging sober living, therapy, sober companions and 12 step meetings.
