The Basics
As a Certified Addictions Specialist (CAS), Joey Marcelli of Canada Interventions, Inc. has been helping clients achieve sobriety for many years. Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Marcelli is an Internationally Certified Level II Masters Interventionist and Instructor. The Background

The Approach
The intervention process with Marcelli and staff begins with an initial phone consultation. Knowing that this is a delicate and often emotionally charged process, the staff remain professional, empathetic and compassionate. During that initial conversation, the team member gathers collateral information about the client and determines if Canada Interventions is a good fit. Clients in the Vancouver area may opt for a face-to-face initial meeting at no charge.
Once the family decides to enlist the services of Marcelli and Canada Interventions, the process is explained in detail and a deposit is taken. Next, a conference call is scheduled to educate the entire intervention team, typically consisting of family members and friends. Those participating in the intervention are encouraged to begin writing their thoughts, concerns and hopes regarding the client and their addiction and recovery, which will ultimately become their script for the intervention.
Next, details regarding travel and accommodations are arranged. Prior to the intervention, the family and support team undergo six to eight hours of intensive informational sessions. Subjects covered during this phase are the disease model of addiction and alcoholism and self-defeating behaviors such as enabling, co-dependency and rescuing. Next, Marcelli describes best type of treatment for the client and their unique circumstances. Treatment typically consists of detox, residential, outpatient and/or continuing care.
Marcelli employs the Arise Method, an invitational and compassionate method of intervention. During the intervention, the team share their thoughts and wishes for the client and if the desired outcome is achieved, the client is transported safely and directly to a treatment facility.
Post-Intervention and Summary
Following the intervention, Marcelli provides aftercare in the form of counseling, referrals to 12-step programs and assistance with vocational and community services. For Marcelli, the intervention process is the first step towards healing for both the client and the family. Family members are assisted in connecting with Alanon programs in their area. Once a client completes treatment, the staff at Canada Interventions remain in contact and encourage continuing attendance of 12-step meetings as well as and individual and group therapy.
