The Basics
Located in the Denver suburb of Aurora, Colorado, Jireh Counseling Center is a private outpatient facility that offers treatment for substance abuse and mental health issues. The facility was created in 1995 by Verndale Goins, who has a doctorate in clinical pastoral counseling and is also a certified addictions counselor. He named it “Jireh” after the Hebrew word for provider and his vision is to provide clients with the coping skills and emotional tools to be free of dysfunctional behavior. Services such as DUI education, monitored sobriety, urinalysis and therapy using a CBT approach are offered on a sliding fee scale.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment options at Jireh include state-approved DUI programs, which consist of three levels, and a traditional outpatient program for substance abuse. Medication-assisted treatment and monitored use of Antabuse and Naltrexone are provided. Detox is not available, but referrals are provided if necessary.
The traditional outpatient program is offered for substance abusers who are not court-ordered. This option includes group and individual therapy, as well as drug and alcohol education. Clients attend two-hour group sessions once a week that focus on topics such as relapse prevention, coping skills and anger management. Individual sessions are scheduled as needed. Evidence-based therapies such as CBT and DBT are used in the program. The length of time spent in treatment depends on the individual, but typically it is not more than six months.
For DUI offenders, the level one education track offers 12 hours of education on drunk driving and prevention tools, while level two education is 36 hours and uses the Driving With Care curriculum. Level two therapy is a comprehensive program for repeat offenders that addresses family of origin issues, patterns of use and impact of substance use on the client’s lifestyle.
Individual therapy is also available with counselors who specialize in areas such as anger, trauma, addiction, emotional disturbance, marriage and life transitions. CBT is often used in the one-on-one setting.
The staff includes CADCs and a nurse who specializes in addiction medicine.
Extras
Urinalysis and breathalyzer services are available. Jireh’s monitored sobriety service is designed to assist clients in staying away from drugs and alcohol by teaching them coping skills. It is offered in the office six days a week—Monday through Friday from 9 am to 7 pm and Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm.
