Located in Huntington Beach, California, Hired Power specializes in “transitional recovery” services for clients struggling with substance abuse who need help getting from one stage of recovery to another. This includes interventions, sober companionship and case management. Hired Power also provides safe transportation for clients who are leaving one facility and entering another. This includes jail, residential treatment, a hospital or going back home. As one of seven team members, Jill Nugent is a Board Registered Interventionist (BRI), Certified Intervention Professional (CIP) and a CADC. Besides helping those with chemical dependency issues, Hired Power provides specialized interventions for those with eating and gambling disorders, as well as executive and adolescent services.
CEO Nanette Zumwalt founded Higher Power in 2002, and Nugent joined the company in 2009. Nugent has been in recovery for more than 20 years. She began abusing drugs at the age of nine, struggled for years and finally found sobriety through AA at the age of 23. Her own experience has made her devoted to helping other suffering alcoholics and addicts. She specializes in working with those who are between the ages of 18 and 25 because she relates to the unique struggles and opportunities that come with getting sober as a young adult.
The intervention process includes assessment, preparation and intervention. Hired Power incorporates different intervention models, including the Family Systemic Model and the Johnson Model. The Family Systemic Model incorporates the addict every step of the way, while the Johnson Model utilizes letter writing from the family to the addict, as well as providing evidence to the addict, which confirms that there is a definite problem that must be addressed. During preparation, family and friends are taught how to set boundaries.
Treatment referrals are included. At an additional cost, Hired Power offers safe passage for a client. A gender-specific recovery assistant works hands on to move the client from the intervention to detox or residential treatment. The recovery assistant helps pack a client’s belongings, provides transportation and much-needed support.
Post-Intervention and In Summary
