The Basics
Founded in 1941, Jewish Family and Children’s Services of Southern Arizona is a community-focused organization designed to help families, children and those with disabilities. Though originally geared towards clients of Jewish heritage, all programs have evolved to serve anyone in need, regardless of ethnic background or religious beliefs. Jewish Family and Children’s Services of Southern Arizona offers a number of services, including outpatient treatment for substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.
Treatment and Staff
All treatment plans are individualized and involve a combination of individual, couples, family and group therapy. Programs are open to clients of all ages—from children to senior citizens—and deal with chemical dependency, trauma, PTSD, depression and anxiety. All methods are evidence-based and include EMDR, CBT, DBT, somatic experiencing and play therapy for kids. Family systems therapy is also offered as necessary.
Staff at JFCS is made up of Master’s-level counselors and LCSWs.
Extras
JFCS offers free trauma counseling through a program called Project Safe Place for children three to 17 years old and adults ages 18 to 50. Other programs include court-ordered legal guardianship for adults, support groups for women with cancer, domestic violence services and treatment for eating disorders. JFCS also provides support for Holocaust survivors including mental health counseling, case management and food preparation as necessary.
