The Basics
Jessie Trice Community Health Center provides outpatient treatment for adults dealing with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Counseling is offered in the Miami office, which is adjacent to a park and recreation center. As part of a large and thriving community health organization, the program has been helping residents in Miami-Dade and surrounding counties for over 20 years.
Treatment and Staff
The first step in substance abuse treatment is an evaluation and eligible clients are then be assigned a counselor. Those with co-occurring disorders are seen by a psychiatrist for medication management.
Jessie Trice Community Health Center offers various level of outpatient treatment. Day treatment is Monday through Friday from 9 am to 2 pm. Clients meet for individual therapy once a week and the remaining time is spent in groups. Topics include managing stress and anxiety, addiction studies, relapse prevention and 12-step study. In addition, there are gender-specific groups and groups for those with co-occurring disorders. Group size is limited to 10. Weekly drug tests are conducted and clients must attend three outside AA or NA meetings per week. Attendance slips must be signed. Typical duration for day treatment ranges from four to six weeks.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) clients meet three days per week for a total of nine hours, with the option to attend in the morning or evening. Topics are similar to those in day treatment. Individual therapy is bi-weekly and drug tests are administered on a random basis. The typical length of care is six weeks.
Regular outpatient clients meet once a week for a group session and individual therapy on as-needed basis. Typically. this is a step down for those coming from day treatment or IOP.
The treatment team consists of psychiatrists, MFTs, LADCs and LPNs. CBT is used in therapy sessions.

In addition to outpatient, Jessie Trice offers residential treatment for women at the Jefferson Reaves House.
