Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority Review
Located in the New Orleans metropolitan area, The Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority (JPHSA) is a local governing entity in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. The mission of the JPHSA is to provide comprehensive behavioral, social and developmental services to members of the surrounding communities. With two locations, one for outpatient and the other for residential treatment, those struggling with substance abuse have the option to choose the location that best suits their recovery needs.
Accommodations and Food
The accommodations for the inpatient program at JPHSA—which is designated for adult males aged 18 and older only—are a dormitory style setting. Each client shares a room with one other person and the bathrooms are communal. There is a recreation room with a cable TV, computers, board games and lounging areas. There is also a living room, separate rooms for meetings and a fully equipped kitchen. Meals are provided three times a day in a cafeteria and include healthy options such as a vegetable dish, meat or fish and some type of pasta or bread.
Treatment and Staff
The substance abuse treatment program at JPHSA is highly individualized. Clients are initially assessed to determine which program they should be in and which types of treatments and therapies would be most fitting for their recovery.
The men’s residential program is short-term (28 days). The highly structured program consists of individual and group therapy, educational lectures and treatment for co-occurring disorders, 12-step meetings, medication management (if necessary), family therapy, recreational activities and integration back into the community services.
For the co-ed outpatient program, there are several weekly groups offered including the night group, the day group or the co-occurring disorders group. All clients are required to attend a weekly educational group and upon completion of the program, a weekly aftercare group. Individual counseling is scheduled based on the needs of the client, as is family counseling if desired by the client. All therapies for both programs are based in DBT methodology. The staff at both JPHSA locations consists of psychologists, LCSWs, CADCs and LPCs.
Extras
In addition to the comprehensive substance abuse treatment programs, JPHSA also offers a variety of other services and programs to clients and community members. It facilitates crisis intervention services, homeless programs, housing services, vocational services, children and adolescent services and community resources.
In Summary
Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority offers two comprehensive substance abuse treatment programs. The outpatient program caters to the individual and has many options for those with varying schedules. The residential program for men integrates numerous treatment modalities to insure a well-rounded approach to recovery and sobriety.
