Ocala FloridaThe Basics

Operating from her home base of northern Florida in Ocala, interventionist Jamie Eater is the Clinical Director of Sober Escorts and provides interventions, sober companionship and recovery coaching.

Sober Escorts was founded in 2004 by Eater’s husband, recovering addict Rick Parrish. Eater brings a long history of experience in social work and case management to her work, allowing her to effectively treat clients with dual diagnosis. She is an Master’s-level Social Worker and also holds Board Registered Interventionist Level II (BRI-II), Certified Interventionist Professional (CIP), a Certified Trauma Therapist (CTT) and Certified Addiction Professional (CAP) credentials.

Sober Escorts treats clients with mental health issues, eating disorders as well as process (sex addiction, gambling) and chemical addictions. Eater has recently launched a new program through Sober Escorts—the SEGUE program, a customized two-week coaching and companionship service that eases clients through the transition from treatment to home.

The Background

Eater received her MSW in 1998 from the University of Central Florida after beginning her career in sales. Her first job in the field was in the locked dual diagnosis unit of a psychiatric hospital in Port St. Lucie, Florida. She then became a case manager at Hanely Hazelden in West Palm Beach and primary therapist at the recovery facility Refuge: A Healing Place, which was the catalyst to her committing to a career helping those in recovery. Eater also serves as Program Director of the Association of Intervention Specialists (AIS).

The Approach

Eater’s mental health training and long history working with clients in recovery has given her familiarity with many modalities of treatment. In her practice she uses evidence-based therapies including DBT and EMDR and is trained in holistic methods including hypnosis and trance breath work.

Her interventions include extensive pre-intervention family coaching and consulting on the detox and treatment facilities best suited for each client. Sober Escorts customizes the intervention for each client’s personality and situation drawing on practices from intervention models including ARISE, Tough Love and The Johnson Model, the Confrontational method, the Love First approach and the Systematic Family method. All interventions are respectful and aim to avoid harming the individual or their self-esteem with the aim to motivate them to accept help.

Eater and her associates regularly travel to both the east and west coasts as well as Europe and Canada to conduct interventions. She takes pride in her special ability to effectively match clients with treatment facilities and sober companions.

Post-Intervention and Summary

Sober Escorts provides a wide range of services to meet the needs of clients at each crisis point in the transitions into and post-treatment, including sober companionship, intervention and recovery coaching. Jamie Eater brings her training in mental health as well as extensive experience as a therapist to her work as an interventionist. In addition, as the wife of an addict in recovery (founder Rick Parrish), Eater’s first-hand experience with the destruction of addiction enables her to be especially supportive and empathetic to families in crisis.
