Jackson Recovery Centers Review

With six locations throughout Iowa, Jackson Recovery Centers has been helping clients of all ages with addiction treatment for over 30 years. Founded n 1976 by a married couple, the original Sioux City location offered a full continuum of treatment for adults and adolescents. Through the years, the program has expanded with locations in Cherokee, Denison, Harlan, Le Mars and Onawa. Today, this free-standing nonprofit addiction program offers residential, halfway house and outpatient services at an affordable price. With gender-specific treatment and small group sizes, clients are able to receive maximum individual attention and care.

Accommodations and Food

Jackson Recovery Centers’ Synergy adult inpatient program in Cherokee and adolescent and women’s residential programs in Sioux City have gender-specific, comfortable living spaces. Clients are housed in traditional treatment facility fashion, each center containing anywhere from 20 to 30 beds. No need to worry about the living spaces being sterile, as they were created to have a warm vibe. Dorm-like bedrooms are shared between two clients at a time, featuring wooden, twin-sized beds, wooden dressers and desks. The buildings also offer cafeterias, therapy rooms, common areas with comfortable couches, TVs and offices. Smoking is permitted in designated areas during break time.

The transitional care programs in Sioux City also offer gender-specific living spaces, intended to help clients reenter everyday life with support. These facilities have a similar layout to the residential set ups, offering shared bedrooms, common areas, group rooms and space to smoke.

Three meals a day are provided for residential clients. Options vary from day to day, cooked and served on site by staff members. Special dietary requests can usually be accommodated and coffee is available throughout the day.

Treatment and Staff

Jackson Recovery Centers’ residential programs are rooted in the 12 steps, offering a traditional approach to abstinence-based recovery. The length of time spent in treatment depends on the individual’s needs and severity of addiction, although 90 days is the average stay. The client’s stay includes individual therapy once a week, group therapy, family therapy, 12-step meetings and education. Group topics vary depending on gender but may include self-esteem, parenting, trauma, relapse prevention, anger management and building life skills. Evidence based therapies like CBT and DBT are used with lients.

The 12 steps are the guiding force of all the treatment programs. Clients can attend four outside meetings throughout the week, immersing themselves in a supportive, recovery-based community. While sponsorship is not required, it is suggested.

For women who have little ones, a special program in Sioux City enables mothers to bring their children to treatment. While the clients are receiving therapy, daycare is provided for the kids.

Evidence-based, trauma-informed care is available to treat addiction and co-occurring disorders in clients ages 12 to 18. Both residential and outpatient services are provided, with on-site psychiatric and medical care. In residential, the clients live in gender-specific housing, working on life skills, confidence and self-esteem in group and individual therapy.

There are also two transitional homes in Sioux City, one for women and one for men. These supportive environments provide stable sober living environments for clients as they ease back in to everyday life. Clients are required to obtain employment outside of the home, while attending AA/NA meetings and group therapy in the evenings. This affordable option is designed to increase the chances of long-term sobriety.

In addition to residential and transitional care, outpatient services are available for both adults and adolescents in six locations. This type of treatment is less rigorous than residential but still provides ample support. The length and intensity of treatment depends on the individual’s needs. The typical intensive outpatient (IOP) program offers group therapy three or four nights a week for three hours and one hour of individual therapy per week.

Extras

For recreation, the Sioux City women and children’s residential program has an outdoor area with a playground. When the weather permits, the mothers can take their little ones to play and spend time outside. Most of the facilities also offer small exercise rooms.

Jackson Recovery Centers offers a wide variety of education and prevention classes. From a family education series to DUI classes to drug free workplace seminars to teen diversion talks, this organization goes above and beyond to help better the lives of community members.

The Phoenix program brings treatment for substance abuse and mental health issues into the jail system. The in-jail program lasts about 45 to 60 days, providing group therapy and 12-step meetings five days a week for soon-to-be released inmates. Clients are also able to take part in family therapy and individual counseling once a week. Upon the completion of this program and release, clients attend outpatient therapy four times a week.

In Summary

Jackson Recovery Centers offers affordable, intensive treatment for people of all ages. The hands-on, long-term recovery plans help clients begin new lives in recovery. Through hard work and the application of all the tools gained in rehab, clients can leave knowing a sober life is possible.
