Green Bay WisconsinThe Jackie Nitschke Center Review

The Jackie Nitschke Center was founded in 1971 by a small group of volunteers as a halfway house for alcoholics in recovery. Over time, services have expanded to include residential treatment, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and basic outpatient substance abuse services. Located in Green Bay, Wisconsin, treatment in the residential track is rooted in 12-step methodology and evidence-based methods.

Accommodations and Food

Residents are accommodated in a home-like environment in a residential neighborhood. A spacious three story brick home on a corner lot sleeps men and women in 15 beds. Clients share double occupancy gender-specific bedrooms. Common areas include a living room, three bathrooms, a dining room, front and backyards, on-site laundry facilities and a fully equipped kitchen. Meals are provided three times a day and food restrictions are accommodated by the staff. There are specific rooms set aside for therapy and treatment.

Treatment and Staff

The length of the residential treatment at JNC is 28 days. Clients must already have completed the detox process prior to admittance. Although treatment is similar for all clients, an initial evaluation and assessment at the beginning of treatment helps to determine which therapies will be most beneficial to each client’s unique needs for the duration of the program. Staff utilize CBT and clients focus on goal setting through individual and group therapy, family therapy, involvement in 12-step recovery groups, educational seminars and basic informational sessions. Leisure activities and physical exercise are also integrated into treatment to ensure a broad range of recovery methods are available.

Additionally, there is a family day where family members and loved ones of clients are encouraged to attend therapy sessions and educational seminars with the client. Clients also discuss a continuing care treatment plan with their counselor and may also be referred to additional treatment if needed.

The staff at JNC consists of CSWs, MSWs, CSACs and Substance Abuse Counselors (SACs).

Extras

In addition to residential treatment, JNC also offers an IOP, a basic outpatient track and aftercare. The basic outpatient and aftercare programs both focus on relapse prevention and meet once a week for 16 weeks.

In Summary

The residential program at JNC is ideal for those seeking strict and structured care with a no-nonsense approach to treatment. Clients have an individualized treatment plan developed for them and access to a variety of evidence-based therapies, the 12-steps and a holistic approach that incorporates physical and leisure activities.
