The Basics
Island Assessment & Counseling Centers, Inc. is a state approved outpatient substance abuse treatment facility for adults. With branches in Seattle and Oak Harbor, Washington, both facilities offer evaluations, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), individual and group therapy. In addition, referrals into the facility’s associated residential treatment facility—Free by the Sea at Sunset View Drug and Alcohol Recovery Center—are provided as needed.
Treatment and Staff
Following an initial evaluation that takes each individual’s biological, psychological, environmental and social needs into account, clients are assigned a treatment plan that best suits their recovery needs. Detox is not offered, but referrals can be provided if necessary.
IACC’s IOP offers the highest form of outpatient care with clients meeting three times a week for three hours each session, focusing on topics such as relapse prevention, anger management, introduction to the 12-steps, communication and life skills. Treatment is primarily group therapy although clients also attend one individual session per week. Evidence-based therapies such as CBT and DBT are used frequently in sessions to teach clients new ways of thinking. IOP participants are also encouraged to attend AA/NA meetings during their free time, although these are not required.
Aside from the structured outpatient track, 45 to 60 minute individual therapy sessions are also available, allowing clients time to discuss more personal issues in a private setting. One-on-one therapy is also used to teach coping skills, communication skills and relapse prevention techniques. Support for mental health issues—such as depression and anxiety—are also addressed. Individual therapy is also offered as stand-alone treatment.
The staff consists of LADCs. Groups are typically no more then 10 clients at a time.
Extras
DUI assessments and deferred prosecution evaluations are available. To enroll, clients are asked a series of questions that will determine which level of treatment they will need in order to have license and driving privileges fully reinstated. After the assessment, the provider makes a recommendation for treatment or classes.
