Coal Grove OhioThe Basics

Ironton-Lawrence County CAO is located in Ironton, Ohio, a small city on the Ohio River. ILC has been providing behavioral health services to county residents for over 25 years. Its Coal Grove location currently provides outpatient services to those seeking Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid addiction. ILC also serves the community with a full spectrum of primary care treatment at five locations throughout the Ironton-Lawrence County area.

Treatment and Staff

ILC partners with two local physicians who prescribe Suboxone for use in MAT. Clients receive doses at their physicians’ offices and visit the Coal Grove location for group and individual therapy.

After an assessment, clients and clinicians create a treatment plan that includes group therapy once or twice a week and individual therapy as-needed—usually once a week. Groups contain 12 or fewer participants and use a variety of evidence-based therapies such as CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Clients are not required to attend 12-step meetings during treatment, but regular attendance is highly encouraged.

The treatment team at Coal Grove includes Master’s-level therapists such as MSWs and CSWs. Clients with co-occurring disorders can receive therapy and medication from the behavioral health department at Coal Grove which has a staff psychiatrist.

While formerly maintaining a neutral stance on tapering, ILC recently shifted its opiate addiction treatment approach to encourage clients to taper off of Suboxone. When they feel ready to taper, clients receive counseling that provides emotional support to help transition to a drug-free lifestyle. Since this process is highly individualized, there is no average duration of enrollment; some may stay a few months, while others participate for several years.

Extras

Family therapy is available through ILC’s Behavioral Health Department for loved ones who wish to participate in the recovery process. Additionally, Coal Grove regularly invites alumni of its outpatient program to speak to groups, share their experiences in recovery and to offer emotional support. ILC also offers low-cost primary care services at its other community locations.

In Summary

Ironton-Lawrence County CAO’s Coal Grove outpatient treatment offers comprehensive therapeutic support to residents using MAT to end their opiate addiction. With access to treatment for co-occurring disorders and inspiring alumni visits, the program casts a wide medical and social net to give clients the best conditions to find success in recovery.
