Located 20 miles west of Peoria, Illinois in the small town of Glasford, Invictus Woods is a sober living for adult males between the ages of 18 and 35 in the early stages of recovery. With a focus on showing young men how to enjoy their recovery, Invictus Woods offers physical, mental and spiritual support through a comprehensive curriculum that integrates the 12-step recovery model, holistic methods and outdoor activities. The facility is run by Dr. Ronald Rabjohns, a cardiologist, and Camilla Rabjohns, a registered nurse, who are also active in the community recovery meetings. Invictus Woods is an upscale yet also rustic sober living that facilitates guidance through peer support.
Accommodations and Amenities
Situated on 35 acres of wooded terrain, the residence offers a serene atmosphere far removed from big city life where residents can focus on staying sober. Nearby Peoria boasts plenty of restaurants and 12-step meetings. The home, called Prospect House, is equipped with five bedrooms, four bathrooms, commons rooms on both floors and a beautiful surrounding landscape. The kitchen is fully equipped and the bedrooms are comfortably furnished with two twin-sized beds, wood paneling, plenty of storage space and natural light. Clients also enjoy a large TV, internet and a telescope. The sprawling backyard includes a patio and firepit with campfire log seating.
Residents are asked to bring two weeks of casual apparel that include warm and durable clothing suited for midwestern weather. Situated in the wilderness, Invictus Woods offers a wealth of outdoor activities including fishing, hiking, gardening as well as barbeque nights, campfires and theatrical outings. In addition, residents receive a gym membership, practice yoga and meditation, and can take a nearby bus into town where there is tennis and a skateboard park.
Rules and Regulations
Invictus Woods is a peer support sober living house that places a premium on the 12-step recovery program. In order to attend, clients are required to have completed a residential program of at least 28 days in length and attend daily 12-step meetings. In addition, the facility provides once a day process and relapse prevention groups. The team offers addiction and nutrition education as well as money management, and helps clients find a job as well as a sponsor. Clients are encouraged to be involved, be it attending one of the nearby community colleges, taking a job in town or performing community service. In addition, residents perform chores, grocery shop and cook meals together.
