The Basics
With three locations in Utah including Salt Lake City, Provo and St. George, Intermountain Specialized Abuse Treatment Center offers a variety of recovery services with an emphasis on treating both victims and perpetrators of sexual abuse and domestic violence. The organization offers substance abuse recovery services on an outpatient basis at each of its locations.
Treatment and Staff
After an initial assessment, clients are enrolled in an outpatient program which usually lasts for 16 weeks though this can vary depending on court requirements. Participants can be self-referred or court-mandated. There are no detox services offered at the facility.
Intermountain Specialized Abuse Treatment Center’s most comprehensive program is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) which consists of group and individual therapy three times a week. Because the facility is geared towards providing sexual abuse and domestic violence services, substance abuse programs vary depending on the location. As a result, if there are not enough clients enrolled in the program at a particular time, group therapy may not be offered. In these cases, clients can expect weekly individual sessions.
All therapy sessions are led by LADCs who are trained in CBT. While there is no particular emphasis put on the 12 steps at the facility, clients can still receive information about local meetings. Clients can also expect dual diagnosis support in addition to counseling as there is a psychologist on staff. Medication management is not available.
Intermountain Specialized Abuse Treatment Center also firmly endorses family involvement. As a result, a family program is available wherein family members or spouses can attend individual therapy as needed.
Extras
Those in need of treatment for sexual abuse or domestic violence can attend group and individual therapy for those topics in addition to the facility’s programs for substance abuse. The facility makes sure to tailor these groups to provide a safe atmosphere. Clients can also attend a child and adolescent victim program, specific groups for adults who were molested as children, groups for children who molest children and groups for adult sexual offenders, as well as corresponding groups for victims and perpetrators of domestic violence.

Overall, Intermountain Specialized Abuse Treatment Center offers basic outpatient care for substance abuse in addition to more comprehensive options for sexual abuse and domestic violence issues. Each of its three locations provide individual therapy though clients looking for group sessions may need to seek out another facility as these services are not always available. Still, for those whose substance abuse issues coexist with additional abuse issues, Intermountain Specialized Abuse Treatment Center may be a perfect fit.
