The Basics
InterCommunity has offered primary care and behavioral health services to residents of Hartford, Connecticut for over 35 years. It offers a standard outpatient track as well as an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Additionally, InterCommunity operates a short-term detox facility (with an average stay of three to five days), long- and short-term residential treatment and supportive housing facilities.
Treatment and Staff
After an assessment, clients are placed on either the standard outpatient or IOP track. Both programs have an average duration of six to eight weeks, depending on progress and attendance. Clients enrolled in the IOP attend group therapy three times each week. In standard outpatient, they attend group sessions once or twice each week. Individual therapy is scheduled as-needed.
Groups are gender-specific and usually have fewer than 10 participants. InterCommunity groups use evidence-based modalities including CBT to explore relapse prevention, family dynamics, stress management and problem-solving using role-playing techniques.
InterCommunity is licensed for both substance abuse and psychiatric treatment and includes support for co-occurring disorders in their scope of care as well as medication management. The treatment team at InterCommunity includes LCSWs, LPCs and addiction counselors.
Extras
InterCommunity has developed several programs to support clients in all aspects of their health. These include an infectious diseases treatment program, employment services oriented towards those in recovery, substance abuse outreach for seniors and a Substance Abuse Treatment Enhancement Program (SATEP) which coordinates case-management, employment and housing services to make sure those in treatment can focus on recovery.
