InterCommunity Recovery Centers Review

InterCommunity Recovery Centers is a private, nonprofit health organization serving the East Hartford, Connecticut community since 1973. Located in a small quintessentially New England town, ICRC offers a variety of behavioral health services including detox, inpatient, outpatient, Intensive Outpatient (IOP,) Sober Living and a halfway house.

Accommodations and Food

ICRC has multiple inpatient tracks to choose from. Accommodations for the intensive residential treatment program are in a hospital setting with two to a room. Although the rooms are not particularly large, there are separate common areas for watching TV and accessing the Internet.

Meals are served three times a day in the cafeteria and there are a variety of healthy, nutritious options available buffet-style.

Clayton House is a six-month residential inpatient program with beds for 15 men and women. Clients are expected to maintain employment—working during the day—and participate in the evening recovery program. Dually-diagnosed clients are welcome, providing they are receiving psychiatric care and are stable enough to keep a job.

Coventry is a 10-bed residential halfway house for pregnant women and mothers needing recovery. A four- to six-week program, this family-oriented residence permits clients to have up to two children living with them.

Treatment and Staff

The ICRC detox program has 35 beds and clients may stay up to five days. This medically managed facility also provides individual and group counseling and on-site AA meetings.

The intensive residential program lasts 14 to 28 days and is intended for those just out of detox and in the earlier stages of recovery. It consists of daily group therapy and individual sessions, with personal assignments to better aid recovery. The 12-step methodology is used, as is basic substance abuse education.

The 90-day intermediate residential program is for those further along in recovery and focuses on preparing the individual for living life after rehab without substance abuse.

The two outpatient tracks offered at ICRC are IOP and regular outpatient. The IOP is three hours a day in either the morning or evening and meets four times a week. CBT is employed during the individual and group sessions, as is relapse prevention education, stress management and family involvement. The regular outpatient program is held weekly and also includes individual and group therapy, family sessions, anger management and relapse prevention education.

Extras

In addition to their addiction treatment programs, ICRC provides several halfway houses and sober living environments for their clients transitioning to daily life. There is also a program for substance-abusing pregnant and postpartum women, and the Housing Support program–a sober living environment for those awaiting substance abuse treatment.

In Summary

ICRC is a comprehensive treatment center with a trained and professional staff, various inpatient programs, a detox center and outpatient programs. Although not luxurious, ICRC’s commitment to recovery leaves no addict in need without help.
