The Basics
Since 1984, Intercept Associates has been offering outpatient substance abuse treatment to residents of Federal Way, Washington, a mid-sized city between Seattle and Tacoma. Intercept is named for the agency’s mission to act as an ally for individuals suffering from addiction and the “informed decisions” they make about their recovery and future.
Treatment and Staff
There are three substance abuse treatment programs at Intercept: basic outpatient, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and a third track specifically dedicated to Relapse Prevention.
The daytime IOP and Relapse Prevention tracks are ideal for individuals who have been successful in recovery before who feel they need extra support or are experiencing relapse. The IOP is eight months long, while the Relapse Prevention group is nine months in duration. Clients enrolled in these programs typically attend group therapy three times each week and have an individual therapy session with their counselor every two months. Clients in the standard outpatient program attend group therapy once or twice each week and work with their counselor to determine an appropriate length of treatment. All clients must submit to random urinalysis.
Groups are led by addiction counselors including Chemical Dependency Professionals (CDPs) who refer clients with co-occurring disorders to nearby mental health clinics for therapy and medication. Nighttime groups usually have 15 to 20 participants while daytime groups are smaller. Clients in the IOP and Relapse Prevention program must attend 2 peer support meetings such as 12-step meetings or SMART Recovery each week.

Intercept Associates also offers Anger Management classes and shoplifting prevention classes.

Allowing for a practical application of recovery methods while still enrolled in a program makes Intercept a promising option for those who have struggled with short-term treatment or know that they would benefit from long-term structured support.
