ILC1The Basics

Integrative Life Center is a sober living facility located in Nashville, Tennessee. Lee McCormack, the founder of the center, emphasizes the importance of individualized care using holistic treatment methods. ILC offers two different locations for women in conjunction with an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).

Accommodations and Amenities

The two locations are known as Villa House and Morningstar House. While both offer supportive, sober living environments, the Morningstar location is a little more structured as far as treatment is concerned.

Villa House can hold up to eight women at a time with two to a bedroom and three shared bathrooms. The two-story house  features a large front porch with patio chairs and a living room with a fireplace, two comfy couches and two lounge chairs. A big kitchen with marble counter tops and stainless steel appliances opens up into a dining room. There is an office that clients are welcome to use, as well as a house computer with high-speed Internet. A private meditation room completes the Zen atmosphere. Cell phones and personal vehicles are permitted.

The Morningstar location is reminiscent of a cabin. It can also accommodate eight clients, with two to a room and also has three full bathrooms. Unlike at Villa House, clients are not allowed to use cell phones or cars.

Clients at both facilities are given gym memberships at a YMCA, integrating fitness into the daily routine. A massage therapist visits twice a month and, once a week, clients receive acupuncture. Frequent recreational outings like movie nights, shopping, canoeing trips, hiking trips, sweat lodge visits and trips to local museums are optional.

At the Morningstar facility, all food is provided, while the Villa, which is more of a step-down program, requires clients to shop and cook for themselves.

Rules and Regulations

While living in either location, every client must attend the IOP treatment regardless of where they are in their recovery. The program is broken up into six-week increments. Treatment is four days a week, with three hours of groups and one individual session with a counselor.

While ILC incorporates the 12 steps, evidence-based therapy practices such CBT and DBT are used, as well as trauma-based models like EMDR. In addition to therapy, clients are expected to attend at least five outside meetings per week. In addition to the 12 steps, the facility encourages clients to experience other types of group support like SMART Recovery or refuge recovery meetings.

Random and frequent urine testing is performed at both facilities and chores, which are assigned by the house manager, are expected to be completed by each client weekly.

Both facilities have a house manager. Therapy and medical staff includes LCDCs, RNs, MDs, psychiatrists, LPCs, a meditation instructor and a nutritionist.

In Summary

Integrative Life Center clients receive a combination of therapeutic and holistic treatments while living in a beautiful home surrounded by warm, supportive people who understand what they are going through. Whether the clients stay the minimum six weeks or up to a year, each leaves the program with the tools necessary for success in sobriety.
