Ahoskie North CarolinaThe Basics

Integrated Family Services provides an array of behavioral health and community support services in five locations throughout Northeastern North Carolina. Through its New Beginnings program in Ahoskie—a small town in the Inner Banks region—it offers outpatient substance abuse treatment. IFS has been in operation for over ten years and received its state certification in Critical Access Behavioral Health services in 2010.

Treatment and Staff

After an assessment, clients and their counselors create a treatment plan consisting of group and individual therapy. The duration of treatment varies by client, but most complete their program in 10 to 15 group sessions over the course of six to eight weeks. Group therapy includes addiction education lectures, substance use laws in North Carolina and lessons on coping skills and relapse prevention.

Group therapy is held on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 9 pm and Saturday mornings from 9 am to noon and include 10 to 15 participants. Individual sessions are scheduled throughout the week as needed. The treatment team at New Beginnings includes Master’s-level social workers and LCSWs with CSAC and LCAS credentials. Clients with co-occurring disorders can receive referrals to therapists and psychiatrists at other locations in the IFS network.

Twelve-step meetings are not a requirement of outpatient treatment at IFS, but they are strongly recommended and staff offer referrals to community meetings.

Extras

IFS also provides a Mobile Crisis intervention unit, Domestic Violence intervention, in-home psychiatric services, foster care services, STEM education support for young women as well as in-office and in-school substance abuse prevention workshops.

In Summary

Through its New Beginnings program, Integrated Family Services offers a structured short-term outpatient program that can help clients arrest their substance abuse and begin to build the foundations of a sober lifestyle. With multiple locations and diverse supportive programs, Integrated Family Services can also help clients improve aspects of their health or lifestyle that may be making them more vulnerable to substance abuse.
