chicago illinoisThe Basics

At the Institute for Personal Development, clients of all ages are offered outpatient mental health and substance abuse support. The organization has a network of facilities with offices in Chicago, Joliet, Morris, Aurora, Ottawa and Romeoville, Illinois. At each location, clients are provided individual psychotherapy sessions from a team of qualified professionals who use evidence-based treatment modalities. Alternative therapeutic techniques such as faith-based counseling and Trans-cranial Magnetic Stimulation Therapy (TMS) are also available.

Treatment and Staff

Upon admission, clients must complete an hour-long intake process with a psychiatrist. After this phase, participants are assigned to a primary counselor who helps to develop an individualized treatment plan. Medication management services are available on-site for those struggling with co-occurring disorders as well.

Treatment programs at the Institute for Personal Development are highly individualized and address the unique needs of each client. Typically, each session lasts for an hour and is scheduled as needed. During sessions, therapists take a mind, body and spirit approach to help clients alleviate emotional pain and addictive patterns. Treatment primarily uses CBT with a range of topics covered including anxiety, depression, stress, PTSD, co-occurring disorders, eating disorders, relapse prevention, the disease of addiction, stress and anger management, domestic violence and coping skills. Along with CBT, those dealing with severe depression are offered TMS support in an outpatient setting supervised by a psychiatrist.

The team at the Institute for Personal Development includes psychiatrists, psychologists, CSWs, LPCs and nurse practitioners.

Extras

Children, couples and family therapy are all available as well in an individual setting, with counselors who specialize in those respective areas. Children are treated using talk and play therapy while couples and family sessions generally include CBT. Faith-based counseling is available at the Morris location provided by Don Maxon, an LPC who uses the CrossPointe philosophy during treatment.

In Summary

The Institute for Personal Development is a basic outpatient program with services available for individuals, families and couples. Those with co-occurring disorders can also receive support here through customized treatment plans and individual therapy. While services are limited to general outpatient care, the Institute for Personal Development is flexible and uses proven treatment methods.
