The Basics
Insight Counseling Center is a mental health counseling facility located in Denver, Colorado. With services provided in a converted three-story home, the intimate setting helps founder and primary therapist Beth Barta and her staff treat clients for general mental health and substance abuse issues. With experience working in the field of mental health since 1997, Barta opened ICC in 2003 and only employs Master’s-level practitioners to provide individualized treatment services on an outpatient basis.
Treatment and Staff
Prior to enrollment, clients must participate in a complimentary consultation during which the primary therapist determines whether private practice counseling is the right fit for them or if they require referrals to a trusted detox facility, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or residential treatment.
Each therapist uses their own specialized approach to treatment tailored to the unique needs of their client, but the main techniques include CBT, Gestalt Therapy and EMDR. Each treatment plan is adjusted accordingly as they progress through their recovery goals.
While staff at ICC are credentialed to work with co-occurring disorders, the main component of substance abuse treatment is through group therapy. The frequency of attendance is based on the initial assessment; many clients attend therapeutic activities up to three times per week, eventually reduced to bimonthly or once per month once the client stabilizes.
In addition to groups, clients may also participate in individual therapy with their primary therapist. Some clients may be encouraged to attend 12-step meetings or other forms of peer support groups. Building a support network outside of treatment is encouraged and considered a valuable component of recovery.
All activities are facilitated by therapists with credentials that include LCSW and MFT. All therapists have additional certifications that certify them to work with addictions.
Extras
Other forms of treatment include family therapy to help the family unit heal from the affects of addiction. Therapists work with loved ones to heal trauma and to discontinue harmful enabling patterns. Marriage and couple’s therapy is also available for clients and their spouses to strengthen their relationship.
Insight Counseling sometimes hosts specialty workshops and sessions to meet the unique needs of clients. These sessions include LGBT issues, Women’s issues, fertility issues and healing from trauma.

Insight Counseling Center is comprised of a team of three therapists who use a range of evidence-based treatment methods to support recovery. Through individual, group, family and couple’s therapy, clients may find relief from the issues that may be the root cause of their chemical dependency issues. All services are tailored to the client and their unique needs.
