Innovative Family Therapy is located in Louisville, Kentucky, and is a private practice, outpatient clinic. Counseling services are provided by Master’s-level therapists to kids, adolescents, adults, couples and families. There are both individual and group therapy options offered that vary in size and cover a number of issues including substance abuse, codependency, parenting, depression and anxiety, sexuality and gender identiy. Treatment protocols are evidence-based using a number of different approaches to provide an individualized experience.

Treatment and Staff

Innovative Family Therapy treats clients as young as three years old; they are provided with a personalized treatment plan that includes age appropriate strategies, with younger clients always working with a parent in conjunction with the therapist. Child age clients are often seen for behavioral changes, acting out in school or for increased anger or signs of depression. Adolescent clients are typically brought to therapy for concerns including self harm, having problems with authority, early indication of substance abuse, or for having suicidal thoughts. These clients are always given several treatment options with a collaborative approach with family members. Parents of younger clients are also provided with additional resources, if it appears addiction help may be needed.

Adults seeking treatment are offered individual therapy for emotional struggles along with parenting issues, anger management, grief and loss, OCD, impulse control and ADD/ADHD. There are programs specifically for those who are going through a divorce, and for clients who can’t come into the office for sessions, there are telehealth services available.

Group therapy options cover topics that pertain to both adolescents and adults. Examples include body image, social anxiety, bullying, preparing for life events like marriage and parenting, and self esteem. These groups meet once a week and run about 90 minutes. Groups sizes vary in number from three to four clients to over 10 per session, and consist of a set amount of weeks.

Therapeutic approaches include CBT, DBT, child centered play therapy and expressive play therapy, art and music therapy, solution focused therapy (SFT), Gestalt, and experiential methods.

Innovative Family Therapy staff includes the clinic’s owner, Chelsea Gorham, LMFT, and two other therapists who are CADC and LPC.
