San Bernadino CaliforniaInland Behavioral and Health Services: Westside Counseling Center Review

Since 1978, Inland Behavioral and Health Services has provided comprehensive medical and mental health services to residents of the Inland Empire region of Southern California. Headquartered in San Bernadino where there are three facilities, there is an additional branch in Banning. The North E Street location has two outpatient programs. The first is Westside Counseling Center—an outpatient treatment for youth, men and women. Additionally, women with children requiring substance abuse treatment are enrolled in The Perinatal Care Network—a program catering to the specific needs of women and their children.

Treatment and Staff

IBHS Westside Counseling Center’s outpatient treatment program has both a standard outpatient track which requires clients to attend group therapy once a week and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) which requires three group sessions each week.

After an assessment, clients are enrolled in one of the two tracks and given an individual therapy schedule which usually includes one weekly session. The duration of treatment is progress-based, with most clients staying in treatment for four to six months. As they successfully complete treatment, clients step down to attending treatment less frequently. Clients are also required to submit to random drug-testing.

Group sessions usually have 12 participants and use CBT and other evidence-based modalities. Groups are led by addiction counselors, including Alcohol and Other Drugs Counselors (AODCs).

As IBHS also offers a comprehensive range of mental health services, clients with dual diagnosis can receive referrals to psychiatrists and Master’s-level therapists for medication management and therapy.

Extras

IBHS Westside Counseling also offers a range of specialty programs including a 16-week PC1000 Drug Diversion program for first-time drug offenders referred by the courts and Parolee Services Network—a program for those who were ordered to but did not receive substance abuse treatment while incarcerated. Additionally, clients are liaised with CalWORKS—an employment-readiness program for those in recovery and several community outreach workshops to prevent substance abuse and gang-related violence.

In Summary

Inland Behavior and Health Services Westside Counseling Center offers long-term outpatient services designed to provide clients with the opportunity to stabilize their lives while receiving extensive support. It prides itself on offering community-sensitive treatment for residents of San Bernadino and surrounding areas, a community that has struggled with economic hardship and violence in recent years. Inland Behavior and Health Services has the contacts to connect clients with extensive case-management services to help heal the parts of their lives that may be causing or significantly impacted by their substance use.
