With more then 30 years of experience, Indianapolis Counseling Center uses a psycho-educational and therapeutic approach to treat chemical dependency, sex addiction and co-occurring mental health issues. Located in central Indianapolis, this metropolitan facility specializes in helping those who engage in illegal behaviors, ranging from drunk driving to sexual offenses. With staff members who have spent extensive time rehabilitating sex offenders and addicts, clients can get the help they need to live a safe and healthy life.
Accommodations
Indianapolis Counseling Center operates out of a converted office space. While the interior is not exactly warm and friendly, clients have enough room to participate in therapy. Each program is assigned their own group room that contains an array of seating and white boards for educational lectures. Meals are not provided in this program but clients are welcome to bring snacks from home.
Smokers can take cigarette breaks in the designated smoking areas around the building.
Treatment and Staff
This facility offers a range of programs for men and women age 18 and above. For those needing treatment for chemical dependency, an outpatient program is held once a week for 26 weeks while the intensive outpatient program (IOP) offers support three times a week for 12 weeks. During this time, clients receive assessments, individual treatments, monthly reports and discharge reports to law enforcement agencies when needed. Through immersion in education and group therapy, clients can gain new coping skills, support and insight. Topics that are covered in group include alcoholism, drunk driving, cocaine and marijuana dependence, over-the-counter drugs, family systems, anger issues, self-help programs, drug dealing and relapse prevention.
Other programs at Indianapolis Counseling Center provide treatment for public sexual misconduct such as exhibitionism, domestic violence and anger management and psychosexual offenders.
The public sexual misconduct program is for men only and includes a 26-week CBT course that focuses on developing new ways to respond to triggers. Clients participate in homework assignments and the program also uses educational information and case studies to deal with this sexual disorder.
The psychosexual offender program is designed to help both men and women. Through group therapy, clients can address sexual victimization, sexual compulsivity, behavior accountability, victim empathy, family healing and relapse prevention.
Treatment at this counseling center is not limited to clients. The Families Reunite program invites spouses, parents, foster parents and significant others of sex offenders to participate in group therapy. This 12-person group meets once a week for 12 weeks, allowing family members to ask questions and gain support from others who are in a similar situation. The cost is $50 per week.
The staff consists of Master’s-level therapists who have extensive backgrounds working with sex offenders, sexual abuse survivors and addicts. Several of the therapists have worked in correctional facilities, gaining further insight into sexually maladaptive behaviors.
