Impact Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center Review
Located in Pasadena, California, Impact Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center has been offering comprehensive substance abuse and mental health services since 1969. Situated on more than two acres of land, Impact offers both residential and outpatient programs. Using a straight forward, evidence-based approach, Impact’s clients become immersed in recovery. With individualized treatment plans, case management, 12-step work, counseling and recreational activities, they benefit from the full spectrum of therapeutic experiences.
Accommodations and Food
The 130-bed facility is somewhat traditional, with dormitory-style rooms that accommodate two to four residents and have twin beds and a desk for each. When it comes time for treatment, clients make their way over to the main building where there are therapy rooms, a recreation room, gym, offices and a dining hall. During free time clients have access to the on-site gym in addition to walks around the surrounding premises of Pasadena. Smoking is permitted in designated areas.
Three meals a day are prepared on-site by resident chefs. With an emphasis on health and nutrition, a salad bar is served at each meal. Dietary requests can typically be accommodated. Coffee is available in the morning.
Treatment and Staff
Prior to entering the program, each client must undergo an initial evaluation to determine the appropriate level of treatment. Upon admission, the client is assigned a case manager who oversees their treatment plan and goals in addition to any challenges they may encounter. The case manager is part of a treatment team that meets each week as a group to monitor and evaluate a client’s progress and recovery. Dual diagnosis support is available, detox is not. Those who need detox are referred to a nearby facility.
The 30-day residential program includes a full schedule of activities and treatment using evidence-based therapies such as CBT and DBT in both group and individual settings. Group therapy takes up most of the day in addition to at least one individual session each week. Group topics include gender-specific discussions, relapse prevention, trauma, anger management, 12-step work, family and couples issues, vocational issues, chronic relapse and finances. Clients are required to attend several 12-step meetings each week and to get a sponsor.
In its outpatient program, Impact offers weekly individual and group therapy, case management and random drug testing. The amount of time spent in outpatient treatment depends on the individual’s needs.
The Impact staff includes CSW case workers, program managers, therapists, LADCs and a registered dietician.
Extras
Involvement of loved ones in the recovery process takes place through family therapy, which addresses issues around co-dependency, communication and healthy boundaries. Visitation is also permitted.
As a client nears the end of residential treatment an aftercare plan is developed. This involves regular check-ins with an aftercare case manager, weekly individual and group counseling and mandatory random drug testing.
A thriving, organic garden and sessions with a registered dietician help instruct clients in healthful eating.
