Imani House Review
Located in Kansas City, Missouri, Imani House is an outpatient program for substance abuse available through Swope Health Services. Treatment is available in a range of intensities, including a Partial Hospitalization Program, (PHP) Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and standard outpatient services. All of the above include group and individual therapy, educational classes, assignments and weekly urinalysis tests. All services are facilitated by certified professionals who use evidence-based treatment modalities.
Treatment and Staff
Programs are available to adults ages 18 and older struggling with substance abuse and mental health disorders. All clients must begin with an initial assessment with a clinician, after which they can be placed in an appropriate level of care. Those dealing with co-occurring disorders are provided on-site psychiatric medication management. Medication-assisted treatment for adults going through opiate withdrawal is also available.
Each of the programs includes individual, group and family therapy as well as educational groups. Those in PHP meet for treatment from 8 am to 4 pm Mondays through Fridays. IOP and standard outpatient clients are provided more flexible schedules though they are required to attend a certain number of treatment hours per week. For IOP, participants are required to attend 10 hours a week whereas standard outpatient requires only five. Clients can be scheduled based on their needs and availability.
Groups are held for between one to two and a half hours at a time. Along with morning and day groups, adults in the IOP and less intensive program can attend evening groups held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 5:30 to 8 pm. During group sessions, therapists discuss issues such as dual diagnosis, trauma, anger management, relapse prevention, codependency, nutrition, parenting, substance abuse education, coping skills and community support. All participants are also asked to complete assignments based on the material discussed in groups. Clients can also schedule individual sessions as necessary.
Staff members include LADCs, CADCs, LCSWs, MSWs and psychiatrists. Treatment techniques include DBT and Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET).
Extras
Imani House partners with The Healing House to provide supportive living arrangements for those attending PHP. Clients are housed in residential-style facilities with meals and transportation included. Case management services are available in all program levels for those in need. Finally, court-ordered clients can attend a Substance Abuse Traffic Offender Program (SATOP) through the facility as well.
