Ignatia HallIgnatia Hall Review

About 30 miles south of Akron in Canton, Ohio, Summa Health Services Ignatia Hall offers substance abuse treatment for adults residing in Stark County and the surrounding areas. Addiction recovery has a rich history within Summa Health Systems. In 1939, Sister M. Ignatia, of Summa St. Thomas Hospital and Dr. Bob Smith, the co-founder of AA, created the first hospital-based detox unit in the country dedicated to the treatment of alcoholism. Today, it is known as Ignatia Hall at St. Thomas Hospital. This 12-bed, acute care unit provides alcohol and chemical dependency detox services for adults. Continued treatment is offered through Ignatia Hall’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or referral to other community resources.

Treatment and Staff

Potential clients are assessed to determine an appropriate recovery plan and are and assigned a primary therapist who oversees the treatment. Individuals requiring detox will be admitted to Ignatia Hall’s inpatient detox program—famous for being the first in the world, with over 70 years of serving the community. Detox is typically five to seven days and medication-assisted treatment with Suboxone is provided for those experiencing opiate withdrawal. After detox, clients are either referred to Ignatia Hall’s off-site IOP or a local inpatient treatment program.

IOP meets in an office setting four days per week Mondays through Thursdays for three hours each day. The day program is from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and in the evening track meets from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Treatment is four weeks in duration, totaling 16 sessions and include both group and individual sessions. Treatment uses CBT in conjunction with the 12-step model of recovery. Group topics include identifying triggers, introduction to the 12 steps, peer driven discussions, dealing with depression and anxiety, coping skills, fun in sobriety and setting goals.

Clients with co-occurring disorders requiring mediation are referred to a local psychiatrist. All groups are facilitated by a MFT, CDAC or LCSW and group size ranges from six to 10 individuals. Ignatia Hall also conducts weekly urinalysis tests to ensure sobriety.

Extras

A MFT facilitates family education on Wednesday nights from 6 to 8 pm. In addition, one year of aftercare is provided free of charge and meets every Tuesday evening.

In Summary

Ignatia Hall offers a detox program with a historical connection to the founder of the 12-step movement and flexible IOP services for adults with both morning and evening options available. This Canton-area recovery program is ideal for individuals seeking affordable, comprehensive recovery support using traditional evidence-based therapeutic methods and 12-step philosophy without committing to a residential program.
