Huntington Hospital Review
Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, California is a not for profit treatment facility that’s been in operation for over 125 years. Accommodations and Food
Huntington Hospital has 619 bed in total, with 54 beds devoted to the inpatient program. Those clients reside in a double occupancy bedrooms all with private bathrooms ensuite. Everything is provided for the clients including bedding and toiletries. The facility has a cafeteria that serves clients meals every day and offers several different options, including desserts, coffee and tea.
Treatment and Staff
At the initial assessment, clients meet with members of the treatment team who go over their usage history and overall health, and treatment options are discussed. If detox is the first step, clients undergo a three to seven day process that is monitored 24 hours a day by nursing staff to make sure that medication needs are met and vital signs are steady. They also observe nutritional intake and sleep patterns. During this stage clients meet with a counselor for individual therapy, and have some written and workbook assignments to complete.
Once the client is stabilized they are able to attend daily group therapy. Groups cover relapse prevention, identifying triggers and communication. There are also regular psychoeducation classes offered to both clients and their family members regularly. Daily in-house 12-step meetings are facilitated, and clients are also provided with resources to connect to AA and NA meetings within their respective communities. Therapeutic approaches are CBT, DBT, EMDR and other evidence-based modalities.
Huntington Hospital offers alternative treatment methods in addition to talk therapy approaches. One example is the use of Electroconvulsive Therapy (ETC), and medication management for dual diagnosis clients.
There is a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and medical professionals who run these treatment programs through Huntington. Staff is comprised of CADCs, psychiatrists, physicians and psychiatric nurses.
Extras
During their stay clients have access to a full gym, yoga classes, and massage therapy. Some holistic options offered are art and music therapy, and pet assisted therapy.
