Hudson Mohawk Recovery Center (HMRC) is a network of transitional care and outpatient facilities in upstate New York’s Rensselaer County. Headquartered in Troy, this adult transitional recovery program was founded in 1967 and is dedicated to providing sober lifestyle skills. HMRC offers a hybrid of both sober living (prior treatment and sobriety is required) and outpatient services. There are three outpatient offices located in Troy, East Greenbush and Hoosick Falls as well as two gender-specific supportive living homes, both in Troy. The men’s facility is a 17-bed residence referred to as Hudson Mohawk Supportive Living and the women’s residence is Elizabeth’s House, a 14-bed haven for females new to sobriety who are in need of a solid sobriety foundation and drug-free environment.
Accommodations and Food
The HMRC facilities are renovated buildings divided into apartments. A residential client starts out in a shared room in one of the apartments, then upgrades to a single room and finally graduates to having an entire apartment to themselves. Each living space has its own bathroom and kitchen. Meals are self-provided with groceries purchased by the clients themselves and supplemented with restaurant and takeout or delivery food.
Treatment and Staff
Length of treatment varies and programs are designed to meet each individual’s treatment needs. HMRC takes a holistic approach, aiming to address medical, family, social, housing, vocational, educational and legal needs. Offered weekly, group counseling sessions focus on various stages of abuse, dependency and recovery. Detox and dual diagnosis are not offered on-site, but can be made available through the network of certified facilities with which Hudson Mohawk is affiliated.
Outpatient services are available, as well as day treatment and adolescent services. The outpatient Evening Intensive Program is nine to 10 hours a week and day treatment is 20 hours per week. Educational seminars offered to the community at large include a Drinking Driver Program, Batterers’ Intervention Program and Educate Youth Program.
The staff includes CASACs, licensed mental health counselors, Master’s-level clinicians, social workers, nurses and a consulting psychiatric nurse practitioner.
In terms of perks for those in residency, weekends away are permitted after the client’s initial 30 days. Visitations are allowed daily. Curfew is 10 pm but can be extended to 11 pm upon request. Cell phones, personal computers and other electronic devices are allowed on-site.
Hudson Mohawk Recovery Center has helped hundreds recover from addiction and live better, more productive lives. Its affordable combination of community outreach programming, outpatient rehab offerings and sober living accommodations are an invaluable asset to the county it serves.
