In 1991, the late Pastor Esteban Morales, founded House of Freedom in Kissimmee, Florida. Morales’ own experience with addiction and recovery inspired him to help others. He dedicated his life to providing resources to those struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders, both in Florida and Puerto Rico. House of Freedom offers residential and extended care for adults in 30-day, 90-day and 15-month programs at its main facility. Treatment is provided in both English and Spanish.

The House of Freedom Exclusive Executive Program offers a small number of people individualized care at a private location. Several outpatient programs are also available. Treatment incorporates Christian faith-based teachings and the 12-step philosophy. It also includes education, life skills and evidence-based practices and dual diagnosis support.

Accommodations and Food

House of Freedom’s main 52,000 square feet state-of-the-art location can accommodate 30 men and women in gender-specific, semi-private bedrooms shared among two or three residents. Rooms are furnished with twin beds, dressers bedding and linens. The facility has a game room with a pool table and ping-pong table, a movie theater, a chapel, an on-site sauna, fitness center and outdoor basketball court.

All meals are prepared on-site by kitchen staff and served at set times in the dining room. Dietary restrictions can usually be accommodated upon request.

The luxury option, called House of Freedom Exclusive Executive Program, offers treatment to four clients at a time in a quiet atmosphere and upscale home environment. In this private-pay only program, the individual’s needs and personal treatment goals are the main focus. Food is prepared by a private chef, daily maid service is provided and all treatment is offered on a on-to-one basis.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment begins with a comprehensive assessment so that an individualized treatment plan can be created. Detox is provided on-site if necessary and clients are given 24-hour medical care during the process. During primary care, clients attend group therapy daily and individual sessions several times a week, along with on and off-site 12-step meetings. Treatment employs the evidence-based practices of DBT, CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Relapse prevention and life skills training are incorporated to prepare clients for more independent living. Clients are encouraged to apply for work and school during this period, in addition to creating a plan of action for aftercare—like finding sober living facilities and enrolling in House of Freedom’s outpatient therapy.

The interdisciplinary team of professionals at House of Freedom is composed of physicians, a psychiatrist, Master’s-level CADCs, LPCs, LCSWs, certified behavioral health technicians and certified personal trainers from the National Academy of Sport Medicine (NASM), which are also certified P90X professionals. Residential staff is available 24 hours a day. Many of the team members are graduates of the program or are also in recovery.

Extras

Since 2007, House of Freedom Puerto Rico has served as a facility where families effected by addiction can receive therapeutic and spiritual services. The vision was first born in the heart of the founder, Esteban Morales, and offers crisis intervention, recovery coaching, workshops, family groups and religious counseling.

In Summary

House of Freedom offers a structured and supportive environment based on Christian and 12-step principles.  It provides a place to begin recovery with the security of extended care options where clients can benefit from being part of a recovery community and long-term therapeutic support.
