House of Hope, Inc. (Ohio) Review
Since 1959, House of Hope, Inc. in Columbus, Ohio has provided residents of Franklin County affordable treatment for drug and alcohol addiction. Funded by local organizations as well as private donations, House of Hope, Inc. offers an outpatient program for men and women and a long-term residential program for men. Treatment incorporates both evidence based therapeutic methods combined with alternative treatments and skill building, giving clients a well-rounded and holistic recovery experience.
Accommodations and Food
The men’s residential program has a total of 20 beds spread among several residential houses resembling sober living environments. Clients stay for a minimum of six months accommodated in homes featuring spacious common living areas and a fully equipped kitchens. Bedrooms are double-occupancy and have tasteful cottage-style decor. The staff chef provides all initial meals but as residents progress in their treatment, they work on developing life skills and begin preparing meals for themselves.
Treatment and Staff
In both the outpatient and residential programs, clients can expect a busy treatment schedule with both individual and group therapy covering topics like drug and alcohol education and life skills. Treatment employs evidence-based modalities with CBT sessions twice a week. Staff employ a wide range of experiential activities including gardening, cooking, Tai Chi, Qi-Gong, massage therapy, nutrition classes, meditation and exercise. All clients are expected to attend regular 12-step meetings, find a sponsor and work the steps.
Staff consists of LCSWs, LMTs, MDs and LCDCs, many of whom are in recovery themselves.
Extras
STD education and nursing care are available by way of the Columbus Health Department and medical check-ups are offered courtesy of Friends of the Homeless. Team-building and problem-solving activities are provided through partnerships with Godman Guild and Camp Mary Orton and include outings such as a ropes course and camping trips. Though House of Hope doesn’t offer an official aftercare program, clients are encouraged to step down from residential to outpatient treatment.
