Hotel California by the Sea Outpatient Review

Based in Newport Beach, California, Hotel California by the Sea opened in 2013. What started as a transitional living home for men, has now expanded into a comprehensive organization, treating addiction and co-occurring disorders. In addition to detox and specialized residential programs for men, women and young adults, Hotel California has two outpatient programs. One is in Orange County, California and the other is located in the upscale Seattle suburb of Bellevue, Washington. Both offer optional placement in sober living homes in conjunction with a “Day Treatment” or Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and basic outpatient treatment.

Treatment and Staff

Each new client at Hotel California receives an individualized treatment plan formulated according to the information collected during the intake process. This includes a comprehensive medical history and exam, urine drug screen, psychiatric evaluation and clinical interview. Clients are assigned a primary counselor that works with them throughout treatment. Those who are not in need of detox or 24-hour care are eligible to begin treatment in Day Treatment or IOP.

The Hotel California Day Treatment program is usually about two weeks and clients have the option to live in local sober living houses or at home. The program includes four hours per day of CBT-based therapy per day, five days a week. IOP is typically a 30-day program and includes three hours of therapy, three days a week. Outpatient care is the final phase and offers one three-hour group a week and individual therapy on an as-needed basis.

There are specialized gender-specific groups available, as well as those that offer dual diagnosis support and medication management. Group topics include relapse prevention, healthy communication, goal setting and coping skills. Day Treatment and IOP clients are required to attend 12-step meetings in the community.

The team at both Hotel California Outpatient locations includes CADCs, CSWs, case managers, office staff and a consulting psychiatrist.

Extras

Clients in the outpatient programs also include access to a nutritional counseling, anger management and mindfulness training.

The Hotel California by the Sea Bellevue clients have the option to live in Hotel California’s gender-specific sober living homes while they participate in treatment. There are two homes for women and one for men. Housing accommodations include 24-hour staff, all linens and bedding, weekly $75 food cards, gym memberships and medication monitoring services. On-site laundry facilities, transportation to the gym and 12-step meetings are also available at no cost to the client.

The Hotel California family program includes loved ones in regular therapy sessions with the goal of restoring meaningful relationships. The aftercare services provided by Hotel California include weekly peer-led alumni meetings at both locations, recovery monitoring and sober companions.

In Summary

The outpatient programs offered by Hotel California provide clients with a great start in recovery. With two locations and a full continuum of care, including detox, residential and outpatient programs, and exposure to the 12 steps and holistic healing, this is a great option for recovery.
