Horizon Village: Terrace House Review
Opened in 2014 as part of metal health services provider Horizon Health Services, Buffalo’s Terrace House is a medically-supervised detox and withdrawal program for adults, and a complementary offering to Horizon Village’s residential facility in Sanborn, New York. Though they are a longer-term detox with a month-long program for those with co-occurring disorders, the main objectives here are to help clients safely get clean, promote abstinence and start clients on a longer recovery journey.
Accommodations and Food
Terrace House is a part-brick building situated in an urban environment, and looks fairly plain from the outside. Theirs is a 31-bed facility where clients share double-occupancy rooms with twin beds and eat basic, cafeteria-style meals. They are a co-ed location with 24-hour care available.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment typically lasts from one to two weeks, with therapy extending to 28 days when dealing with co-occurring disorders. Treatment primarily consists of nursing and medical care but also includes counseling, relapse prevention and life skills training. Family groups meet twice a week, with open visitation on Saturday mornings.
Clients must bring picture identification and are allowed three days’ clothing. No electronic devices, outside bedding, cigarettes or e-cigarettes are permitted. Aside from some limited treatment offered on-site, each client also gets a thorough assessment which includes discharge planning. Visitation is not allowed during the initial portion of treatment.
Extras
Yoga is offered at Terrace House to alleviate the anxiety, depression, pain and insomnia which can often accompany those going through more severe withdrawal symptoms. Veterans can apply for treatment at the affiliated Freedom Village facility in nearby Sanborn. Finally, Terrace House also offers a therapy dog program.
In Summary
Horizon Village: Terrace House has a limited range of services available, and ultimately their facility is only designed for adults in need of immediate detox, or those who are in imminent danger of relapse. Still, their program is comprehensive as far as detox goes, and clients can easily transition into Horizon Village’s additional treatment plans. For those who need to stabilize and get clean, Horizon Village: Terrace House is worth considering.
