Located about an hour north of Charlotte, North Carolina in the town of Hickory, Hope Valley is a non-profit residential treatment program designed for men and women struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders. Founded in 1968, Hope Valley is licensed by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. The facility does not offer detox so incoming clients are required to be alcohol and substance free for at least seven days prior to entering treatment. In order to be admitted, all individuals must be willing and able to work full-time jobs and participate in all of the programming.
Accommodations and Food
The Hope Valley residential facilities are situated in separate men’s and women’s farmhouses located in the foothills of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. The bedrooms are equipped with two twin-sized beds and basic furnishings, and there is a fitness room, common room with a TV and basketball court on the property.
While linens are provided, clients are encouraged to bring their own pillows. With only 14 residents at any time, clients enjoy a tight-knit community of peers, plenty of personal attention and the privacy needed to begin recovery. Residents are allowed visitors on the weekends for the first month, and can request an overnight pass after completing two months. While electronic devices are not permitted at Hope Valley, residents are allowed cell phones to update friends and family. The facility also provides laundry services for each resident as well as airport transportation shuttles. There are also designated areas where smoking is allowed.
Residents enjoy large and nutritious meals. Individuals with dietary preferences or restrictions can be accommodated.
Treatment and Staff
Hope Valley offers long-term residential care. While the length of treatment varies depending on the specific needs of the client, many individuals stay up to three months. While the 12-step recovery model is the cornerstone of the programming, Hope Valley offers an integrative approach that incorporates several additional therapeutic models including psychoeducation, therapy, case management, recreation and faith-based methods. Residents engage in group lectures, individual therapy, group therapy, self-examination, church services and regular AA and NA meetings.
The Hope Valley staff is comprised of physicians, counselors and addiction specialists. Medication management is available for clients in need of dual diagnosis support.
Hope Valley staff members often assist clients in finding employment.
