Hope Nutrition Therapy Review

Everett and Seattle Washington based Hope Nutrition Therapy is an outpatient clinic that was founded by Diane Summers to treat children, adolescents and adults who are struggling with chronic eating disorders. Treatment includes individualized nutritional therapy, experiential sessions and group counseling based on the extensive experiences of the staff in order to educate the client and their families about the dangers of long-term eating disorders. The goal at Hope Nutrition Therapy is not just to have clients learn how to live with food, but also change their thinking when it comes to their body image, weight and exercise.

Treatment and Staff

Every client who seeks treatment at Hope Nutrition Therapy recieves personalized care and programming that is geared towards creating a nurturing environment that is conducive to exploring the origin of where the eating disorder began and learning how to make healthy and beneficial strides forward. The therapist all employ a trust model approach and work to dispel the shame that many clients feel in regard to their eating disorder and begin to heal the relationship they have to food and their bodies.

Clients are given a treatment plan using the Health At Every Size model that incorporates new ways of evaluating the body, replacing negative self talk and journaling. There are also several experiential outings like having a meal or snack out in public in several different settings, going grocery shopping and picking out nutritionally sound items, and learning how to cook and bake for others and finding joy in the process. There are also weekly group sessions that offer psychoeducation. The staff regularly offers resources for added support to their clients and families. This can include guidance with literature or websites that support the philosophy behind treatment and clients learning how to change their old ideas when it comes to food.

As treatment progresses clients start to drop the strict rules they have surrounding their eating disorders and begin to allow for their bodies to naturally navigate and decide when to eat based off of natural need and appetite, and learning to trust the feeling of being full.

The small staff of Hope Nutrition Therapy bring their extensive experience working with clients with eating disorders in inpatient and outpatient settings, some of whom were critically ill. They are certified eating disorder specialists and dietitians. In addition, the Everett office provides a therapy dog named Patmon who is trained to work with clients who suffer from PTSD.

Extras

There are supervision and aftercare services for those who are recently discharged from an inpatient treatment facility and need extra support during their transition.

In Summary

The treatment at Hope Nutrition Therapy aims to provide healthy change in clients in addition to promoting awareness and prevention of these diseases. The staff uses their experiences and specialized education to offer ways for clients to change up their feelings surrounding food and relieve them of the burdens of the rules and restriction that eating disorders naturally bring to their lives. Another added asset to this facility is that programming is executed in a very supportive and caring environment.
