St. Charles House is a sober living facility for men that operates through Beit Hillel Sobriety in partnership with Honey Recovery of Los Angeles, California. St. Charles offers a highly structured environment that requires a solid footing in the 12-step community and regular therapy while maintaining a job or school schedule. Honey Recovery is committed to offering a safe place for men who are early in their recovery efforts to acclimate back into their lives at their own pace, but with expectations and accountability.
Accommodations and Amenities
The St. Charles House is located in the Los Angeles suburb of Culver City. The three bedroom home is close to several restaurants, shops and grocery stores and offers plenty of public transportation options. The clients share their bedrooms, between two and three in each, and have two bathrooms. Every bedroom has a mounted flat screen HD TV, along with the living room, and all have cable and WiFi capabilities. There is also a house computer that’s shared, but personal devices and cell phones are allowed in the house as well.
Other common areas of the facility are the kitchen and dining room, washer and dryer, and backyard BBQ. Clients can have their own cars during their stay, and ample street parking is available. Food is included in the monthly fees, though clients are usually working close to full time and can buy any food they’d like for themselves. Otherwise, there are house food options that have to be prepared by the clients.
Rules and Regulations
The first and most important rule of St. Charles House is that every client comes in clean and makes a solid commitment to stay that way. Every client has to attend at least three AA or NA meetings per week if they’re not working full time or going to school and have a sponsor. There are weekly house meetings that serve as a sounding board for the clients and a check in for the staff that are mandatory. Clients also have to submit to random drug testing any time it’s requested.
There are outpatient treatment options for those who still feel the need for support, and Honey Recovery provides an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and step down services. Dual diagnosis support is also provided via individual therapy and psychiatric medications are allowed while living in the house as long as all medications are declared during their stay.
Initially there is a seven day blackout period just so the newer clients can get used to the rhythm of the house, and visitation may be put off for a week or so.

Visitation is allowed daily from 9 am to 9 pm, though no overnight guests are permitted.

Though the programs are designed to urge clients to get back out into the world, St. Charles House is adamant about following the rules and staff aren’t shy about asking someone to leave if they don’t adhere to the requirements. This is to hold the men to a high level of accountability and give them the gift of believing in themselves.
