The main Homewood Health Centre facility is a 300-bed mental health and addiction treatment facility in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. With over 130 years of experience and a network of more than 4,500 employees at five locations, it is one of the largest organizations of its kind in Canada. Its primary location offers assessments, outpatient and inpatient treatment, aftercare and family support services. Four community outpatient clinics provide counseling, family support, relapse prevention and youth services. Homewood provides specialty therapy groups tailored to the needs of healthcare professionals, first responders and those with co-occurring disorders. Its also offers specialized groups for young adults and seniors.
Treatment and Staff
Clients must receive a referral for outpatient care from the main Homewood facility or a local hospital. They must also complete a psychiatric assessment prior to admission. Detox is not available. The outpatient level of care is designed for those who have completed inpatient and need aftercare or do not require the structure of a residential program. Clients must reside in Guelph or Wellington County, be over the age of 18 and mentally and physically able to live without supervision. Each client receives an individualized treatment plan, which includes individual, group, and family therapy as well as mandatory participation in 12-step meetings. The duration and frequency of treatment depends on the client.
For clients with co-occurring disorders, additional psychiatric support and medication management is available.
The family program offers education, support and open discussion with other people who are going through the same issues. Individual counseling is also available for family members.
The Homewood alumni foundation offers a yearly Spiritual Renewal Service. This annual event that provides alumni members, staff, volunteers, patients and Board members a unique opportunity to celebrate recovery.
