Accommodations and Food
Homeward Bound in El Paso is a bilingual residential facility situated in a simple, one-story building with the look of a mid-sized church. Clients share bedrooms equipped with full-sized beds and basic furnishings. Residents are asked to bring a week’s worth of clothing including pajamas, running shoes, sandals and bath towels. Clients are welcome to bring their own toiletries, skin cream and shaving kits.
To prevent any issues, the facility does not permit residents to bring cash, smartphones, caps, electronics or food and beverages. The residential program lasts 28 days and clients are not allowed visitors during their stay.
Homeward Bound serves three meals and day. Clients with food allergies and specific restrictions can be accommodated.
Treatment and Staff
Homeward Bound offers comprehensive treatment aimed a healing the underlying causes of conditions rather than simply treating symptoms. As such, the facility provides individualized care strategies customized to meet the specific needs of the person. Treatment plans are based off of a pre-screening evaluation and intake assessments, where the team evaluates the client’s home life, medical and psychological records and history of substance use. Following the intake, many clients transition immediately into the detox program. Homeward Bound offers a medical detox program that includes around-the-clock supervision and medication to curb painful withdrawal effects.
Upon completion of detox, residents typically transfer into the residential program. Homeward Bound’s 28 day residential programming utilizes a multi-faceted treatment approach that integrates 12-step, evidence-based therapy, skills groups and holistic measures. Clients engage in individual and group sessions rooted in CBT as well as NA and AA meetings, parenting skills classes, relapse prevention groups, life skills training, meditation and recreational activities.
The team includes physicians, psychiatrists, therapists, counselors and a nursing team. As previously mentioned, for clients with co-occurring mental health conditions like trauma and depression, the facility offers medication management.
