Homeward Bound El Paso Review

Founded in 1980, Homeward Bound is a non-profit treatment organization offering affordable care for men and women coping with alcohol and substance use disorders. In addition to the main campus in Dallas, Texas, Homeward Bound has a second location in the city of El Paso. It provides an individualized, comprehensive curriculum that spans medical detox, residential programming and a crisis unit for individuals suffering from severe psychiatric episodes.

Homeward Bound facilitates a multi-faceted approach to care that includes individual and group therapy in addition to holistic practices. Twelve-step principles are also an integral component of the programming, as is medication management for clients with co-occurring disorders in need of dual diagnosis support. Homeward Bound has government-sponsored funding options for clients in need.

Accommodations and Food

Homeward Bound in El Paso is a bilingual residential facility situated in a simple, one-story building with the look of a mid-sized church. Clients share bedrooms equipped with full-sized beds and basic furnishings. Residents are asked to bring a week’s worth of clothing including pajamas, running shoes, sandals and bath towels. Clients are welcome to bring their own toiletries, skin cream and shaving kits.

To prevent any issues, the facility does not permit residents to bring cash, smartphones, caps, electronics or food and beverages. The residential program lasts 28 days and clients are not allowed visitors during their stay.

Homeward Bound serves three meals and day. Clients with food allergies and specific restrictions can be accommodated.

Treatment and Staff

Homeward Bound offers comprehensive treatment aimed a healing the underlying causes of conditions rather than simply treating symptoms. As such, the facility provides individualized care strategies customized to meet the specific needs of the person. Treatment plans are based off of a pre-screening evaluation and intake assessments, where the team evaluates the client’s home life, medical and psychological records and history of substance use. Following the intake, many clients transition immediately into the detox program. Homeward Bound offers a medical detox program that includes around-the-clock supervision and medication to curb painful withdrawal effects.

Upon completion of detox, residents typically transfer into the residential program. Homeward Bound’s 28 day residential programming utilizes a multi-faceted treatment approach that integrates 12-step, evidence-based therapy, skills groups and holistic measures. Clients engage in individual and group sessions rooted in CBT as well as NA and AA meetings, parenting skills classes, relapse prevention groups, life skills training, meditation and recreational activities.

The team includes physicians, psychiatrists, therapists, counselors and a nursing team. As previously mentioned, for clients with co-occurring mental health conditions like trauma and depression, the facility offers medication management.

In Summary

Homeward Bound in El Paso, Texas provides a comprehensive treatment program that includes a medical detox, 28 day residential phase and a unit for clients with severe psychosis. Homeward Bound is open to all, and can help individuals without the means to pay treatment fees through government-sponsored funding. For area clients seeking a comprehensive curriculum that spans detox to outpatient, Homeward Bound is an excellent choice.
