Homeless Healthcare Los Angeles (HHLA) is a community-based organization offering a variety of different services to the homeless population of Los Angeles, California, to keep them sheltered and healthy. With a primary headquarters plus a harm reduction facility, clients have the option to choose the location that best suits their needs. HHLA offers an outpatient substance abuse treatment program for adults.
Treatment and Staff
The substance abuse treatment program at HHLA is exclusively outpatient, however for those clients who are also receiving housing from HHLA, there are transportation services between the residences and the treatment facility. The program is loosely structured but still tailored to each individual. Upon entering treatment, clients are first initially assessed and evaluated to determine the level of care needed and create a treatment schedule. The treatment plan dictates which forms of therapy will be most beneficial to the client, how often the counselor thinks the client should attend therapy and if the client should also incorporate other forms of treatment outside of just HHLA’s program. There are group sessions held in the morning and in the evenings throughout the week but times may vary. Individual therapy is scheduled separately. Twelve-step groups are also offered by HHLA and are held intermittently throughout the week. Treatment for co-occurring disorders is also made available to those clients in need. There is no set length for the program—it’s determined on a case-by-case basis.
The staff at HHLA consists of a LMHT, LISWs, psychologists and CADCs.

In addition to the comprehensive substance abuse treatment program, HHLA also offers a variety of other treatment and social services to clients and the community at large. It provides housing services, syringe exchange prevention and education, basic health care, detox services, case management, intervention, crisis support, acupuncture, mindfulness training, yoga, art therapy, community integration and numerous educational programs.
