Home With Hope Review

Located 60 miles northwest of Indianapolis, Indiana in the small city of Lafayette, Home With Hope is a non-profit organization that provides transitional sober living accommodations for adult men and women beginning their recovery from alcohol and substance use disorders. Clients typically enter Home With Hope following detox or an inpatient program, and the facility helps them become responsible and honest members of the community.

Founded in 1971, it offers a structured and supportive environment where individuals learn how to begin a new full life. With two locations, Home With Hope accommodates nearly 80 transitional residents. The facility provides case management and employment services. In addition, the 12-step recovery model is a cornerstone of the Home With Hope programming.

Accommodations and Amenities

Home With Hope has two locations. The Hope Apartment complex has 22 two-bedroom apartments for male and female residents. The facility believes in the importance of peer support and accountability in order to foster success of a sustainable recovery. As such, all residents have three roommates, two clients per bedroom, in their apartment. Individuals in the Hope complex are also responsible for preparing all of their own meals.

Female clients coming into Home With Hope immediately transition into the Hope apartments, whereas male residents must first go through Brighthouse. Opened in 2007, Brighthouse is equipped with 32 beds and is male-only. Clients receive a hot supper on weekday nights and enjoy access to the kitchen for all other meals and snacks.

Both locations have laundry facilities that are coin operated, and all paper products are provided. Also, both locations are situated near public transportation and Work One, an employment agency, as well as downtown Lafayette.

Rules and Regulations

Upon intake, clients undergo a comprehensive physical and psychological health assessment that includes a drug screening. Individuals are also responsible for the first two weeks of fees. From there on, the cost is $140 per week. In addition to a safe and supportive sober living environment, Home With Hope offers behavior modeling, employment services and full-time case managers. All residents are required to participate in random alcohol and drug screenings. The structure is strict but fair with a zero tolerance policy for substance use, fighting and theft. Clients are not allowed to bring anything at all containing alcohol or pseudoephedrine including mouthwash and cold medicine.

The Home With Hope programming is rooted in the 12-step recovery model. All residents must participate in daily support meetings to remain at the facility. As every individual shares a room, clients are asked to limit their wardrobe to only a few changes of clothes for both attending support meetings and employment services in addition to one set of sheets for a twin sized bed and bath towels.

In Summary

Founded in 1971, Home With Hope is a non-profit organization that specializes in the care of male and female clients beginning their recovery from alcohol and substance use disorder. While medication management is not available, the facility’s programming is rooted in an immersion into 12-step recovery. With two locations, inexpensive costs and an array of services including behavior modeling, case management and drug screenings, Home With Hope is a credit to the community.
