Holy Cross Services Michigan Review
Holy Cross Services is a non-profit organization that provides a range of community services including residential programming for men struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders. A CARF-accredited facility, Holy Cross Services is a rehab that seeks to heal the “whole person” by treating the underlying root causes of conditions as well as the symptoms. The 12-step recovery model is an integral aspect of the curriculum. Clients in need of dual diagnosis support for co-occurring mental illnesses are treated through therapy and medical services.
Accommodations and Food
The men’s residential facility is situated in a large dorm-style building about 38 miles north of Flint, Michigan in the city of Saginaw. It accommodates 20 clients at a time, providing an environment that allows for plenty of privacy as well as a tight-knit community of peers. Residents share bedrooms and stay in twin beds.
There are spacious common areas for socializing and a large kitchen. Clients enjoy a health food menu, and they can accommodate individuals with dietary restrictions.
Treatment and Staff
Residents undergo a comprehensive intake assessment. It includes a history of substance use as well as a complete medical and psychological overview. As a result, the Holy Cross Services team can determine the best possible individualized treatment program to address the unique needs, goals and circumstances of the person.
When needed, clients transition into detox. Holy Cross Services offers a medical detox that includes constant supervision, therapy and medication to curb painful withdrawal effects. Upon completion, residents enter the residential program that provides care five hours a day seven days a week. The length of care varies from client to client depending on their needs. Consequently, treatment can last between three weeks and 90 days.
Holy Cross Services fosters a holistic approach to treatment that includes an array of therapeutic methods and services including evidence-based therapies, 12-step, recreation, psychoeducation and relapse prevention. Clients engage in three hours of group therapy daily and weekly individual sessions with therapists trained in Motivational Enhancement Therapy, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and CBT.
Residents spend time daily designing their discharge plan, and also participate in psychoeducation courses that focus on addiction, anger management and relapse prevention techniques. The facility also offers weekly family therapy sessions that encourage healthy boundaries and supportive, direct communication. In addition, clients participate in weekly 12-step meetings.
Holy Cross Services employs therapists, nurses and addiction specialists. Clients with co-occurring disorders have access to medication management.
While most clients step down from residential into the IOP, all individuals design a plan for continued support to help ease the transition back into regular life.

In addition to a full detox program, the Holy Cross rehab offers an integrative approach that includes a range of therapies and services including evidence-based models, recreation, case management and relapse prevention.
