Located in the city of St. Helena in Napa Valley, California, Hoffman Institute is a non-profit residential facility that specializes in the personal development and spiritual growth of adult clients struggling with a range of challenges. Hoffman is not a treatment facility, and as such does not offer treatment components such as detox, medication management or traditional therapeutic modalities. The facility utilizes a spiritual – emotional – physical approach rooted in the Negative Love Syndrome to help clients pinpoint and change negative lifestyle patterns. Hoffman offers a one-week long residential program that is particularly effective for individuals with busy work schedules.
Accommodations and Food
Hoffman is situated on a private 45 acre campus in California’s wine country. The facility and retreat area offer plenty of amenities including a natural sulfur pool and a stone meditation circle. The residence is equipped for up to 40, with residents staying in semi-private rooms and cottages furnished with nice beds, sofas and bathrooms.
Residents enjoy delicious and nutritious meals prepared by an on-site culinary team. Individuals with dietary preferences, restrictions and allergies can be accommodated.
Treatment and Staff
Hoffman offers an intensive one-week residential program, stretching from Saturday morning to Friday afternoon. While the programming is personalized to meet the needs of the individual client, there is no intake process. In lieu of an evaluation assessment, residents are asked to complete a comprehensive questionnaire before coming to the facility. The Hoffman staff develops a care plan based off of the research. Hoffman is not a treatment facility. Clients struggling with an addiction issue of any kind are required to maintain sobriety for 90 days before coming to Hoffman. While the residential program is one week, clients are encouraged to extend their stay for a weekend after the end of the course to decompress.
Hoffman believes that negative habits and patterns can be attributed to the Negative Love Syndrome, where individuals adopt poor behaviors during childhood to secure their parent’s love only to continue acting out throughout their lives. The facility provides a range of experiential practices to guide clients in the right direction into personal growth. Clients engage in individual and group work as well as life coaching, neuro-linguistic programming, spiritual coursework and dance therapy.
The Hoffman Institute team is made up of teachers with range of specialties including psychology, sociology, art, management and philosophy. Teachers are mostly Master’s-level and PhD-level. As Hoffman is not a treatment facility, medication management is not a component of the programming.
